What Should a Vacation Rental Listing Video Show, and in What Order?
A vacation rental listing video should open on the exterior, move to the outdoor space guests will remember, then walk through the main living areas and end in the primary bedroom. That order follows the way a guest arrives and settles in, so the viewer feels the stay instead of scrolling past a slideshow. At Legacy Luxury Media, every walkthrough film uses this six scene sequence, built from the listing photos you already have.
The six scenes, in order
Our walkthrough film runs the same six scenes in one continuous sequence:
- 1. Exterior, golden hour. The first look at the property. This sets the mood and tells the viewer what kind of place it is before anything else.
- 2. The pool or main outdoor space. For most rentals this is the reason people book. If you have a pool, a hot tub, a deck or a view, it goes here, early, while attention is highest.
- 3. Twilight, lights on. The property at dusk with the windows glowing. It shows the evening of the stay, not just the daytime.
- 4. Living room. Where the group gathers. This is the first room a guest walks into.
- 5. Kitchen. Groups who plan to cook and eat together will look for it.
- 6. Primary suite. The film ends where the night ends, in the best bedroom.
Why the order matters
Leading with the strongest outdoor shots gives a viewer a reason to keep watching, and moving from outside to inside mirrors what it feels like to pull up, step out of the car and walk in.
The common mistake is to follow the photo gallery order, which is often whatever order the photographer uploaded. That can put a bathroom or a hallway near the start. A film is not a gallery. It should tell the stay from arrival to bedtime.
What to leave out
- Every bedroom and bathroom. The film is a hook, not an inventory. Your photo gallery and listing details still cover the full room count.
- Weak or dark photos. One poor shot in a moving sequence stands out more than it does in a grid.
- Near duplicates. Two angles of the same room slow the film down without showing anything new.
Which listing photos to pick
For the full film you send 8 to 12 photos. Pick the ones that match the six scenes above: a strong exterior, your best outdoor space, a dusk or evening shot if you have one, the living room, the kitchen and the primary bedroom. Extra photos give us options within each scene.
For the free teaser you only need 3 to 4: the exterior, the room that sells the stay, and your best view. If a hero shot is missing, such as the exterior at dusk, the pool or the kitchen, we tell you exactly which one to grab from your phone.
If your photos are not strong enough to carry a film, we tell you honestly before you pay. For those properties there is a guided shoot kit: a ten minute shot list you film on your phone, which we then make cinematic.
How long the video should be
The full walkthrough film runs 60 to 90 seconds in 1080p, which is enough time for all six scenes without dragging. It comes with three vertical cuts for Reels and TikTok, so the same sequence works on social as well as on your listing and your own site. The free teaser runs about 15 seconds.
Does a different property type change the order?
The idea stays the same: open with the strongest first impression, then follow the path a visitor takes. For a cabin without a pool, the outdoor scene might be the deck or the view. For an event venue, the order follows the event itself, from arrival to ceremony space to reception. We covered venue films in How Do I Market a Wedding Venue Online with Video?
