How Do I Add a Walkthrough Video to Airbnb, VRBO and My Own Site?

Platforms treat video differently. On your own site you embed the film near the top. On VRBO you can upload a qualifying video through the property editor. On Airbnb there is no listing gallery video upload, so use the film on your site and social, keep the Airbnb photo tour in the same shot order as the film, and after a reservation is confirmed you can send a short video in Airbnb messages. At Legacy Luxury Media, one walkthrough film is built to work across all of those places.

Why the same film goes in different places

Guests discover a stay on more than one screen. Some land on your website first. Some browse VRBO. Some book on Airbnb and only see your photos until they are confirmed. The film itself stays the same six scene sequence: the exterior at golden hour, the pool or main outdoor space, twilight with the lights on, the living room, the kitchen and the primary suite. What changes is how each platform accepts the file. We explained why that order works in What Should a Vacation Rental Listing Video Show, and in What Order?

Your own website

Your site is the place you control. Put the landscape hero near the top of the property or listing page so a visitor sees the stay before they scroll into copy. Keep the file in 1080p, link it from your own hosting or CDN, and make sure it plays on a phone as well as a laptop.

The full walkthrough film from Legacy Luxury Media is 60 to 90 seconds in 1080p from 8 to 12 photos, with three vertical cuts for Reels and TikTok included. Use the landscape master on the page and the vertical cuts on social. For how the $450 flat price breaks down, see How Much Does a Property Walkthrough Video Cost?

If you want Google to understand the page as video content, follow Google Search Central's video SEO guidance for pages that show a film.

VRBO

VRBO lets hosts upload a video on the listing. Per VRBO's help article on adding or removing a video, the steps are:

  1. Log in to your account.
  2. If you have more than one listing, select the one you want to edit.
  3. In the navigation menu, select Property.
  4. Select Edit property.
  5. Select Video.
  6. Select Add video, or drag and drop the file from your device.

Uploaded videos go through a human approval process. VRBO notes the feature is still rolling out, so a video may not show on the listing right away.

Before you upload, match VRBO's video content guidelines:

  • Length. Preferably under 60 seconds, maximum 2 minutes, minimum 15 seconds.
  • Format. mp4 or mov, with mp4 preferred.
  • Audio. Only audio you have rights to use. Clear voiceover and English captions are fine. Other added music may be removed or the video rejected.
  • Orientation. Portrait preferred, landscape accepted.
  • Resolution. Min 1080x1920 (9:16) or 1920x1080 (16:9). No 4K.
  • No slideshow. The video cannot be a montage of still images.

A 60 to 90 second Legacy Luxury Media walkthrough in 1080p landscape fits the accepted landscape resolution. If you want the shorter preferred length for VRBO, use a tighter cut or one of the vertical social cuts when it stays within the rules. Do not upload a slideshow of stills.

Airbnb

Airbnb's public listing experience is built around photos and the photo tour. Airbnb's documented video feature for hosts and guests is sharing photos and videos up to 60 seconds in messages after a reservation is confirmed, as described in Airbnb Help: Send photos and videos in a message.

That means two jobs for the same film:

  • Before booking. Put the film on your own site, on VRBO if you list there, and on social. On Airbnb itself, arrange the photo tour in the same scene order as the film so a guest scrolling photos gets the same path: exterior, outdoor space, twilight, living room, kitchen, primary suite.
  • After a reservation is confirmed. Send a short video in Airbnb Messages. On desktop: open Messages, select the thread, click Add +, choose Add photo or video, review, and Send. Keep it at or under 60 seconds.

A short welcome clip or a how-the-space-works cut works well in that message. The full 60 to 90 second hero stays on your site and social for discovery.

Which file to use where

  • Your website. Landscape 1080p hero, 60 to 90 seconds, near the top of the page.
  • VRBO. A qualifying mp4 that meets length, resolution and no-slideshow rules. Prefer under 60 seconds when you can; landscape 1920x1080 is accepted.
  • Airbnb listing gallery. No video upload for the public gallery. Match the photo tour to the film's scene order.
  • Airbnb messages (after confirmation). A clip at or under 60 seconds.
  • Reels and TikTok. The three vertical cuts that come with the full film.

If you are still deciding between a short first look and the full film, the $295 starter teaser is about 15 seconds from 3 to 4 photos, silent, and the full $295 is credited toward the $450 walkthrough.
